Mazhamba debuts, Hlongwane returns for Chiefs against Chippa

Seven days after playing at the same venue, Kaizer Chiefs are back in KwaZulu-Natal this afternoon on the final day of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season, to welcome Chippa United to the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

With their league position secured, Amakhosi are playing for pride and aiming to reach 57 points to equal their best tally over the past 11 years, which was in the 2019/20 season.

Chippa United, meanwhile, face a crucial battle to avoid the promotion and relegation playoffs.

Chiefs are third on the log with 54 points from 29 matches, while the visitors from the Eastern Cape are 13th with 25 points from the same number of games.

Last weekend’s goal scorer, Glody Makabi Lilepo, is suspended, prompting the coaches to make several changes. They have opted for a youthful line-up, which includes handing goalkeeper, Takalani Mazhamba, his debut.

Following their 1-0 victory over AmaZulu last weekend, Amakhosi have made five changes to today’s starting XI.

After a season of hard work that has earned him a call-up to Bafana Bafana’s preliminary World Cup squad, goalkeeper Brandon Petersen makes way for 18-year-old Mazhamba.

Bradley Cross, also named in Hugo Broos’ 32-man preliminary squad, starts at left-back. Aden McCarthy and Inacio Miguel partner in central defence, with Given Msimango dropping to the bench, while Reeve Frosler completes the back four at right-back.

In midfield, Lebohang Maboe, one of four Chiefs players in contention for the final World Cup squad, lines up alongside Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.

On the left wing, Asanele Velebayi replaces Lilepo. Mfundo Vilakazi takes the attacking midfield role, and 19-year-old Luke Baartman comes in on the right flank for Ethan Chislett.

Up front, Naledi Hlongwane returns after a long absence. He last featured in August 2025, when he made his debut in a 2-0 win over Stellenbosch on the opening day of the season.

Chiefs will line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Miguel will wear the captain’s armband.

Match officials for this season finale are referee Abongile Tom, assistants Kgara Mokoena and Thabo Twayise, with Eugene Mdluli serving as the fourth official.

Kick-off time for all the Betway Premiership matches today is 15:00.

The match between the Glamour Boys and the Chilli Boys will be broadcast live on DStv’s channel 205 and various SABC radio stations. There will be regular updates on the Club’s X (formerly known as Twitter) account, @kaizerchiefs.
