Kaizer Chiefs will play their 75th game in African Club competition, and will go in search of their 41st win, when they face Red Arrows, the 2026 Zambian Cup Winners, in first leg of the second preliminary round of the 2026/27 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
Chiefs will face Red Arrows in Ndola on Saturday at 15:00 at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, almost 300 km away from their regular home ground, the Nkoloma Stadium in the Zambian capital, Lusaka.
Chiefs v Zambian opponents
For the second season in a row, Chiefs are up against Zambian opponents. Amakhosi have met Zambian teams six times in continental games in the past, winning twice, losing three and drawing one. Chiefs’ first wins against Zambian opponents came last season in the Confederation Cup group stages, both 1-0 victories over Zesco United in Ndola, and in the return leg in Durban.
Red Arrows are a new Zambian opponent for Chiefs, who have previously met Nchanga Rangers in the 2000 CAF Cup, and Zesco in the Confederations Cup. In Zambia, Chiefs have won one game, lost one and drawn one. This is Red Arrows’ first game in continental competition against a South African team.
Opposition Watch
Zambian champions in 2004, Red Arrows are competing in the CAF Confederations Cup for a fourth time and are yet to reach the group stages. They qualified for this season’s tournament after winning the Zambian Cup in 2026, defeating Power Dynamos 2-0 in the final.
They defeated Madagascan side, FC Rouge, 4-0 on aggregate in the first preliminary road, winning both legs 2-0, and are undefeated to date in the Zambian Super League this season.
Kaizer Chiefs
The Club reached the group stages of last season’s Confederation Cup but narrowly missed out on the quarterfinals.
On Thursday, they travelled to Zambia with a 23-man squad on the back of a 1-1 home draw Stellenbosch in a league game. The squad held their pre-match training on Friday at 15:00 to replicate playing conditions on Saturday. Amakhosi coach Fernando Da Cruz’s only previous sojourn in the CAF Confederation Cup as a coach saw him lead AS FAR to the quarterfinals in 2022/23 where they were eliminated by eventual winners USM Alger.
