Kaizer Chiefs Reserves came out tops against Chippa United Reserves in a MultiChoice Diski Challenge fixture played on Saturday at the Dobsonville Stadium, winning 3-0.
Reamohetswe ‘Shimmy’ Lekoatsa scored a brace, while Bongani Mabena completed the demolition job.
Coach Arthur Zwane heaped praise on his players for the convincing win, despite the unfavourable playing conditions on the day.
“We could not play our normal passing game,” reflected Zwane. “I am happy that we were productive, despite playing on a water soaked pitch due to the rain. At this level of development you have to appreciate every test that you encounter. The lads came out tops under the circumstances.”
The win is the second this MDC season and the coach views this as a turning point, “There’s no turning back. From now on, we want to keep the winning momentum. We know what we are capable of and with more precision in front of goals, this team is unstoppable. We want to win more games and climb up the log ladder.”
Chiefs Reserves have now seven points after eight rounds of matches played, occupying 13th spot on the MDC log “We must just improve our scoring rate,” Zwane added. “We must also start moving the ball faster in the final third. If we do that, the goals will follow.”
“I am happy with the team’s performance though,” commented the Chiefs coach. “After going through a dry spell, we showed up today, delivering a satisfying performance.”
There are no scheduled MDC games this coming weekend. “We will use this week to work hard in order to build on this performance,” Zwane concluded.
