Kaizer Chiefs reserve team coach Vela Khumalo was not a happy man after his team’s goalless draw in the DStv Diski Challenge against Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates on Saturday, as he had hoped his team would complete a league double.
Amakhosi defeated their rivals 3-0 back in September during their first meeting of the season, but they faced a sterner test this time round as both teams settled for a point.
Speaking after the game Khumalo said,“the occasion disturbed our planning. The boys lacked concentration because of the hype surrounding the game. The players did not execute the game plan and play the style of football we normally play”.
The coach was expecting the game to be played at a more frantic pace than it was, as he spoke of the tactical nature of the game.
“Few chances were missed by both teams, but we did not see end to end stuff or us playing better or a fluent game. We did not dominate the possession as we normally do. We missed one clear one on one chance and not much else. The game was more physical stuff and not fluid,” said Khumalo.
He said his charges were downbeat after the game, disappointed to have dropped points.
“The boys are disappointed. We came with the intention of winning and scoring goals. With us not scoring, given our usual scoring abilities, it is definitely two points dropped and one point gained. We are going to soldier on,” Khumalo told www.kaizerchiefs.com.
For Chiefs it is now a case of picking themselves up and getting the points from their next game against Chippa United.
“Going into the next game against Chippa will be difficult. It is now about boosting and helping the boys put their heads up and concentrate on the next game. It will be uphill because we are playing Chippa, who have lost a game. From our side we must just work on our disappointment of not winning against Pirates. We will try our utmost to win and redeem ourselves,” said Khumalo.
