Chiefs lost the first leg against Wydad earlier in the group stages in a rearranged game which was played in Burkina Faso. Since then, Amakhosi have picked up four points with a win and a draw against Petro de Luanda. Chiefs are aware of the task they face against Wydad who are undefeated in their last 11 games in all competitions - picking up 9 wins in that run. Chiefs who themselves are on an unbeaten run of five games in all competitions, will be looking to upset the current Moroccan topflight leaders.
This will be the second time Chiefs will host Moroccan opponents. They previously faced Raja Casablanca at home in the 2015 First Round First Leg, back in March 2015, a game which they lost 1-0. Overall, Chiefs will be hosting North African opponents in the CAF Champions League for a fourth time. In addition to their past meeting with Raja, they defeated Egyptian giants Zamalek 2-1 in the second round first leg in 1993. Amakhosi also won 2-1 against Tunisian side Esperance in a 2005 CAF Champions League second round’s second leg encounter.
Amakhosi are currently in third place in Group C trail second place Horoya on goal difference as both teams have five points. They will be looking to take control of second spot with a win against Wydad who have already qualified for the quarterfinals. Chiefs’ next goal in the African Champions league will be their 50th in the competition since Eric September scored their first against Gunners of Botswana in a 1-0 win in a preliminary round first leg victory in 1993. The game against Wydad will be Chiefs’ 36th in the CAF Champions League.
The penultimate round of group stage clash will kick off at 18:00 at FNB Stadium with no spectators in the stadium.
