We deserved to win – Vermezovic

Head Coach, Vladimir Vermezovic was obviously a pleased man after referee Robert Sithole blew the final whistle as the Glamour Boys ran 2-1 winners against Ajax Cape Town at Loftus Stadium on Wednesday night.

In a day where South Africans celebrated Reconciliation Day, there was nothing reconciliatory about that game as both teams were desperate for points.

The Glamour Boys dominated the game but were denied by some piece of outstanding saves from Hans Vonk. It took a stoppage time header from midfielder, Josta Dladla to take maximum points back to Naturena.

“We missed lot of chances and we should have finished the game as early as in the first half,” said a visibly relieved Vermezovic after the game.

“We controlled the game from the first minute and created lot of chances. I was not very happy that we did not put away some of the chances that we created but that sometimes happen in football. I am satisfied with the outcome,” he said.

The Serbian surprised almost everyone when he decided to leave Gerald Sibeko on the bench for the entire game after scoring against Bloemfontein Celtic last weekend.

“We were missing Reneilwe Letsholonyane so we opted to use David Mathebula in the middle as he has more defensive qualities as compared to Gerald who can play in the role where Josta Dladla is playing.

We missed Yeye but once again we showed that we have depth in our squad. Wayne Matle for instance came in for Thabang Rooi at half time and did very well creating the goal for Dladla.”

The Serbian though is aware that there is a lot of work that needs to be done before they can think about the title.

“We are focusing on our game. This league is unpredictable and tonight SuperSport United lost and Moroka Swallows were beaten at home by AmaZulu...we are taking it one game at a time,” he concluded.
