Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper coach Rainer Dinkelacker says he is pleased with the early season form shown by Amakhosi goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune and believes that they are on target to meet the pre-season objectives set out by the goalkeeping department.

One of Dinkelacker’s Chief aims was to ensure that all of Chiefs keepers improve on their all round game from the previous season of the targeted improvements he said; “I told the guys that there is always space to improve. Part of our goals were and are to concede less goals, improve our general technique and turn our weaknesses into strengths.”

According to Dinkelacker he believes that thus far they have in part met those objectives. “Itumeleng is the only guy who has played for us this season in goal so far and looking at how he has performed I would say that he has gotten better since the start of the season. Our attitude has to be that we are not the best and can improve if we think that way we can take our game to a higher level and move forward positively,” he said.

The Chiefs keeper believes that Itumeleng performed commendably against Pirates during the MTN 8 Semi Final 1st Leg clash against Pirates last weekend and will face a similar test against Bloemfontein Celtic in this weekend’s Absa Premiership meeting with the Free State outfit.

He said: “Itumeleng had to be aware all the time during the game against Pirates and he did well, we looked at the goal they scored and will try to improve for the next game, he also made a good save towards the end which showed his class.

"I feel that Celtic will be the same as Pirates. They have good attacking players and Itumeleng is aware he will be kept just as busy this Saturday."
