It’s Match-day 24 for Kaizer Chiefs and Polokwane City as they lock horns in the Betway Premiership at the old Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane.
Having made up some of their previous games in hand with impressive victories, Chiefs come into the match on a roll, aiming for a double in Polokwane this week after dismantling Magesi 4-1 on Wednesday at the nearby new Peter Mokaba stadium. Three points today would stretch Amakhosi’s winning run to six matches, a streak that has reignited belief among millions of the Gold & Black nation.
Having already edged Polokwane City 1-0 in their first-round clash in Johannesburg back in August, Chiefs are determined to complete the double over the Limpopo-based outfit. Polokwane, however, will be eager to heal from recent frustrations after drawing 1-1 against Chippa United last weekend.
On the league table, Amakhosi sit third with 45 points from 23 matches, while Polokwane City occupy seventh place, with 33 points from the same number of games. Both sides know that every point matters as the season enters its decisive stretch and games get fewer.
The coaches have once again opted to keep changes to a minimum with two switches when compared with the Starting XI that delivered the midweek triumph against Magesi. Given Msimango returns to replace Inacio Miguel, and Thabo Cele comes in for Siphesihle Ndlovu.
The magic team formation of 3-4-3 will continue once again.
Brandon Petersen is in goal.
The defence will have Bradley Cross on the left, Aden McCarthy sitting at the centre and Msimango on the right.
The ever reliable Lebohang Maboe will play with Cele in midfield. Wandile Duba, who scored and walked away with the man-of-the-match accolade on Wednesday, will again operate wide on the left, with Thabiso Monyane on the right flank.
The consistent Mduduzi Shabalala and Glody Lilepo are the attacking midfielders.
With two goals in the last two matches, Flavio Da Silva is the main striker.
Taking care of the proceedings is referee Eugene Mdluli. He is assisted by Thamaga Sebati and Thabo Thinane. The fourth official will be Romeo Matibidi.
The Betway Premiership match between the Glamour Boys and Rise and Shine will commence at 17:30 at the old Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane.
The match is live on SuperSport’s PSL channel 202 on DStv and various SABC radio stations. There will be regular updates on the Club’s X (formerly known as Twitter) account, @kaizerchiefs.
