Kaizer Chiefs put an end to their losing streak following a 1-0 win against Bloemfontein Celtic through Siphiwe Tshabalala’s 73rd minute strike at Seisa Ramabodu Stadium in Bloemfontein on Wednesday afternoon.

It was Siphiwe Tshabalala’s second goal of the season and a second win for Amakhosi who moved to 9th position in the log having started the game from 13th position.

The first half saw both teams knocking the ball nicely but struggled to go forward. It was at the 29th minute when Jose Torrealba watched his blistering strike outside the 18 area going just wide of Celtic goal.

Chiefs started attacking more with the midfield duo, Tinashe Nengomasha and Gerald Sibeko seeing more of the ball but it was Celtic who came close when Moses Spandeel’s header went just wide of Itumeleng Khune’s goals. This was following a sublime cross from leftback, Ditheko Mototo.

Halftime score was 0-0 to both sides.

Muhsin Ertugral brought a striker, Tshepo Bulu in a place of midfielder David Mathebula with Gert Schalkwyk dropping deep.

It was Celtic who came close breaking the deadlock when Kitambala Mubiala rose high to head Moses Spandeel’s corner but Khune pulled a brilliant save as he parried the ball for a corner.

Hard-running Spandeel was in the thick of things again as his shot went wide after being set through by Mayambela with an awesome pass. Siphiwe Tshabalala who once again had an inspiring game for the Glamour Boys used his pace combined with silky skills to beat Tumelo Nhlapho. His sublime cross was well connected by Thuso Phala but Patrick Tignyemb pulled a good save.

Minutes later, substitute Bulu should have done better when he did brilliantly to control the ball inside the 18 area with Celtic defence in sixes and sevens but the Soweto-born striker ballooned his shot when placing it appeared to be a better option.

The Glamour Boys were finally rewarded at the 73rd minute when livewire, Tshabalala scored with a low shot after a superb run by substitute, Phala. Thuso using his pace, eliminated two defenders before passing the ball to Bulu who failed to control it allowing it to go unmarked Tshabalala inside the box.

Former Chiefs defender, Mototo found it hard to deal with the pace of Phala and it was not a surprise as he received marching orders from referee, Abdul Ebrahim for elbowing Phala.

The hosts tried to come back to the game but with one man down and solid defending from Chiefs defence, there was no denying the Glamour Boys their second league win of the season.
