Tshabalala, Kaizer Jr return for Wits encounter

Posted in News on Aug 31, 2007.

Amakhosi coach Muhsin Ertugral has stuck with the same starting eleven that began last Saturday evenings game in Durban, when Chiefs played to a 1-1 draw with Jomo Cosmos at the ABSA Stadium.

With Emille Baron still out injured South Africa U-23 goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune retains his spot between the sticks, Ertugral has kept faith with the young goalkeeper who made an impressive debut against Cosmos as Ezenkosi could only find a way past him via a penalty kick.

The Chiefs coach has again opted to use Mabhudi Khenyeza and Shaun Bartlett in attack. The pair were a thorn in the Cosmos side last week, and he will be hoping that they can put up a similar display on Friday evening against Wits and get amongst the goals.

Injured Duo return

The only change to the Chiefs squad from the Cosmos game sees the return of Kaizer Motaung Junior and Siphiwe Tshabalala to The Amakhosi match day squad. The pair will be replacing Sihle Mbambo and Sandile Zuke.

Motaung has been out of action since injuring his ankle back in April during a league game against Moroka Swallows and was a happy man as he made his way on to the team coach, prior to Chiefs departure from their Rustenburg hotel to the Olympia Park Stadium.

Motaung told kaizerchiefs.com on Friday afternoon “the important thing for me is that I am back in the squad and I will be an even happier man if I get to play against Wits”. Both Motaung and Tshabalala will begin Friday evening’s game in Rustenburg from the bench.

Cautious approach from Ertugral

Amakhosi coach is wary of Wits and has told his team to be on their guard and expect a tough match that will be played at the same speed and tempo as Chiefs last game against Cosmos.

With Wits having won their last league game against Pirates, Ertugral believes they will be playing with a lot of confidence. Chiefs though can take heart from the fact that they too have been on top of their game during the opening rounds of the season and will want to keep up their 100 percent start to the season.

“Wits are always an unpredictable team to play against they do not have a standard game plan, which makes them a bit of a surprise package” said Ertugral of Wits.

He continued on and added “we need to stick to what works for us and we should not let our hard work go to waste as we need to convert what ever opportunities come our way”.
