Executive Chairman, Kaizer Motaung has described the launch of the 40th Anniversary jersey at the Carlton Centre, centre of Johannesburg on Thursday, 10 December 2009 as a milestone in the history of the Club.

Formed on the 07 January back in 1970, the Glamour Boys will be wearing the new strip for the first time when they take on Bloemfontein Celtic in a much-anticipated clash at Super Stadium on Saturday, 12 December 2009.

“In this jersey we have gone back to our roots,” said the Executive Chairman with a smile speaking to kaizerchiefs.com on Wednesday morning.

“Having decided the name - Kaizer Chiefs the second item on the agenda was the colour of the jersey when we started the Club. There was of course attachment with black, which was a colour used at my previous club, Orlando Pirates but at the end we decided to go for gold and black. There were many reasons on why we went for gold, one being we were in a City of Gold, Johannesburg. Gold also is a bright colour, glamorous and and we thought it was perfect,”

“I remember playing for the first time in gold and black, people became very creative coming with jerseys from different fabrics just to identify themselves with the Club. It was such an historic moment for the ‘new born’ baby at that time.”

Captain Chincha also took time to pay a glowing tribute to Technical Sponsors, Nike who have been with the Club for almost a decade now.

“We are fortunate to have a relationship with Nike, without a doubt one of the biggest brands in sport wear. I recall when we were chosen among the four clubs in the world to endorse a curation range that sold very well overseas. We had people around the world calling us wanting to know where to get it.

On behalf of Kaizer Chiefs, I want to thank Nike once more for their foresight, the innovation they have brought in this jersey and I am hopeful that the new jersey is going to inject more energy to the team as we celebrate 40 years of existence. I certainly hope our supporters will be excited as well,” he concluded.

Brand Manager, Dara Carroll revealed kaizerchiefs.com that the new range of 40th Anniversary jersey that include the Track Jacket, t-shirts, bags, footballs and scarves will be on sale at various outlets throughout the country.

“Our supporters remain a vital cog in the success of this brand and we could not leave them behind. I am sure they are going to be very excited to see what we have in store for them,” said the equally delighted Dara Carroll on Wednesday.
