The final encounter in Durb’s

Under Ernst Middendorp The Amakhosi have a 100% record in official cup and league matches that they have played at the ABSA Stadium in Durban; they kept that record intact in defeating Moroka Swallows this past weekend at the same venue.

With Kaizer Chiefs and their opponents in the October 21 Final SuperSport United happy to travel out of their home cities of Johannesburg and Tshwane respectively the Cup Final will take place at the ABSA Stadium in Durban, where Chiefs will go all out to ensure that there proud cup record at the venue in recent times stays in tact.

The two clubs (Chiefs and SuperSport United) have also expressed their satisfaction with the fact that the game will kick-off at 20h10 in the evening, and not in the afternoon as was initially scheduled as a night time kick off would be played in cooler conditions.

Kaizer Chiefs head of security and logistics commenting on the issue said, “we had a meeting early on Wednesday to discuss the matter, ourselves and SuperSport were in agreement that we would be happy to play the game in Durban”.

It was in Durban two years ago where SuperSport defeated The Amakhosi by a solitary goal in Chiefs only other appearance in the Final game of the Supa8 competition. In recent times Chiefs have found the ABSA Stadium in Durban to be a happy hunting ground, and are unbeaten in their last three outings at the home of the Natal Sharks rugby team.

It all began in September 2005 as Chiefs defeated Golden Arrows for the first time in a league game in Durban by three goals to one at the ABSA Stadium, they followed that up with a triumphant return to the famous stadium by picking up the ABSA Cup Title defeating closest rivals Orlando Pirates in the final, held in May this year. Most recently Chiefs scored a sensational victory over another of their close rivals Moroka Swallows, in the SAA Supa8 Semi Final, which was also played at the ABSA Stadium.

The SAA Supa8 Final presents the perfect opportunity for Chiefs to wipe clean their 2004 Supa8 Finals loss to Matsasantsa, and will be hoping to win the competition for the first time since 2001. Should Chiefs be victorious against United in the October Final, they would record a unique hat trick of Cup victories over Gauteng teams in Durban. Chiefs will also be aiming to make it a hat trick of cup victories over United having beaten them in the 2004 Coca Cola Cup Final and there after bundling SuperSport who were the defending Champions at the time out of the 2005 ABSA Cup.

Further details relating to the game regarding ticket sales and day of the game arrangements will be made public with in the next week, the match will be televised live on SABC 1.
