Telkom Charity brings hope to the needy

Kaizer Chiefs will again donate a total amount of R30.000 to the charity organisation of their choice after receiving the latter amount on Tuesday morning, from the NSL/Telkom Charity Trust for participating in the renowned one-day affair of the spectacular Telkom Charity Cup held in Mafikeng last year. This joint venture between the PSL, NSL/Telkom Charity Trust and the North West government gave hope to hundreds of thousands needy people by distributing a total tune of R4.6 million to 68 charity organisations that are committed to improving the lives of the aged, infirm and disabled.



According to Advocate Ouma Rasethaba “Charity brings an additional dimension in bringing hope to the needy and it is a phenomenon of goodwill, a vehicle of generosity”. She also congratulated Dr. Leepile Taunyane the Life President of the PSL, Chairman of the NSL/Telkom Charity Trust for conceptualizing the Telkom Charity competition.



Charities that came from various parts of the country were all smiles as the Life President of the PSL and Chairman of the NSL/Telkom Charity Trust Dr. Leepile Taunyane assisted by Advocate Ouma Rasethaba, Telkom’s Chief Corporate Governance handed over cheques to beneficiaries.



The amounts of money awarded to beneficiaries was determined in terms of two categories with the first category focusing on 52 charities that applied for funding during the 2008 of which each received a total amount of R80.000.00. The second category included charities that will each receive R15.000 and will be randomly nominated by each of last season’s 16 Premier Soccer League teams.



Dr. Leepile fondly known as Mr. T Taunyane praised the PSL teams for lending their hand in ensuring the success of the competition. “I want to thank all PSL teams and their individual officials for assisting those who cannot help themselves. I always believe that If you go all the way to embrace goodwill, you have joined the army from which you cannot resign” he said



Charities were not the only ones who left the venue with a smile on their faces. The media and club officials were also rewarded with R5000.00 for the sterling work they have done in promoting the competition.
