The Soweto derby has not lived up to expectation this season as the two Soweto clubs have played two goalless draws in the league, but now they will clash in a game where a winner must prevail.

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates meet on April 5 in the semifinal of the Telkom Knockout to decide who will progress to the final to meet Ajax Cape Town.

Captain Jimmy Tau was full of confidence ahead of Monday’s all important game and indicated that their approach is different to the league games that were played by the two sides earlier in the season.

“This game is totally different from the previous two ties because this is a cup game,” said the skipper. “We do know what we have to do and a result will definitely come out from this game, which is a fact.”

The Kimberly-born defender expressed his delight in the way the team performed on Sunday, but was also cautious not to get carried away as there’s still a battle to be won at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

“It’s important for us to carry on from where we left off against Sundowns, but at the same time we must not be too anxious,” he told the reporters.

“We want to take one game at a time and not lose track of what is important right now, which is our game with Pirates.”

The Chiefs number two was pleased to see some of the youngsters come to the party in the absence of the Bafana Bafana players and encouraged them to remain level headed and keep their feet firmly on the ground.

“I have been impressed by the way the likes of Masango (Mandla) and Lebese (George) have played, but it’s important that we should protect these youngsters. They have done well so far, but there is still a lot of room for improvement.

Right now it’s important for them to keep their feet firmly on the ground, because it is easy to get distracted at such a crucial stage of the tournament.” said Tau.

Both Chiefs and Pirates have several key players absent due to national team camp in Brazil, but Tau believes neither side will miss these players as they have progressed so far, with the youngsters in particular, shining for Chiefs.

Kick-off for the game is at 3pm.
