Kaizer Chiefs skipper, Jimmy Tau described the experience of welcoming Sports Heroes against HIV/AIDS in his hometown in Kimberley on Monday (World AIDS Day) as ‘touching’. The long walk to raise funds for people infected with the pandemic started from Maponya Mall in Soweto on 17 November ended on Monday in Kimberley.

Kaizer Chiefs entire squad including Technical Staff joined Cynthia Tshaka, Baby Jake Matlala and other Sports Heroes when the walk started two weeks ago.

“It was a touching experience to welcome Sports Heroes in my hometown, Kimberley. This is a massive project if you think of how many of these personalities put their interest aside for days to embark on this project.

HIV/AIDS is a serious disease and we need all of us as a nation to unite in fight against the spreading of the disease. The personalities who have embarked on this journey from Johannesburg have the country’s interests at heart and they need to be applauded,” he said.

The Captain also highlighted the involvement of both Kaizer Chiefs and Nike in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

“It shows that the Club is in good hands and is aware of some of the challenges beyond football that we are confronted with as a nation. There is a lot to be done both from the Club and the players in making sure that we spread the word about the dangers of the disease,” he concluded.
