Kaizer Chiefs' chances to win the Absa Premiership took a further knock on Saturday night when they lost 3-0 to leaders SuperSport United in water-logged Loftus Stadium.

United's first two goals of the three goals came in the first stanza through a close range shot from Brent Carelse (28) and a header from Elias Pelembe (33). Morgan Gould’s header (53) sealed a victory for the visitors.

The Glamour Boys were looking at returning to their winning ways after bringing a point from their last game but it was not to be as SuperSport United snatched their 13th league victory against Kaizer Chiefs since 1990.

Amakhosi coach Muhsin Ertugral made two changes to the team that played AmaZulu last weekend. Wayne Matle returned to the right-back position in the absence of Jimmy Tau, Mokete Tsotetsi replaced suspended Thabang Rooi while Abia Nale, who came in as a substitute last weekend, replaced David Mathebula.

It was the visitors, SuperSport United who had a brighter start when Ellias Pelembe put in a dangerous cross from the right but striker Glen Salmon failed to read the move.

Then in the 28th minute, SuperSport midfielder Carelse opened the scoring for the visitors when the hosts’ defence failed to deal with the free-kick from Diane Klate.

The Venezuelan Jose Torrealba came close to grabbing an equaliser when he forced a good save out of goalkeeper Dennis Onyango 1-0.

Five minutes later winger, Diane Klate was at his best as he created the second one for SuperSport. This time Klate picked up an unmarked Pelembe inside the box who headed in making it 2-0 to the visitors. Then goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune pulled a sublime save denying Lerato Chabangu with Chiefs’ defence at sea.

Halftime score, 2-0 to the visitors, SuperSport United.

Ertugral made a double substitution at the beginning of second stanza bringing in Josta Dladla and David Mathebula for Arthur Zwane and Siphiwe Tshabalala respectively. It was however, the current Absa Premiership champions United who went 3-0 ahead when defender Gould headed in Diane Klate’s header in the 53rd minute.

The Glamour Boys did not throw in the towel though as they threatened twice on the left side through industrious Abia Nale. The Vaal-born was at his best as he did well to beat his marker and brilliantly set up for Kaizer Motaung Jr but the latter miscued his shot. Minutes later he watched his shot going wide after SuperSport defence failed to clear the ball to safety.

Then substitute David Mathebula forced a good save out of Dennis Onyango with a 25m drive. Few minutes later, a sliding Abia Nale’s tap in went just wide of Dennis Onyango’s goals. This was following a superb cross from Ibe Zito Ogbonna who had also joined in as a substitute.

Then Onyango denied Josta Dladla his first goal for the Club when SuperSport defence failed to clear the ball giving Dladla an opportunity to shoot inside the 18 area.

Chiefs who remained on the fifth position after the loss will travel to Durban on Wednesday to honour their meeting with Golden Arrows at Chatsworth Stadium. Kick-off for the game is at 19h30.
