Striking with confidence - Kaizer Junior

With a potentially title deciding game on the weekend against the defending league champions Mamelodi Sundowns, most people would really nervous about coming up against a team with the strength of Sundowns.

Chiefs striker Kaizer Motaung Junior has opted to take a calmer approach to the game and is not allowing all the hype surrounding the game to affect him. The young Amakhosi hit man who has really come into his own this season, as he has contributed to Chiefs title run with seven goals, is aware that for his team to ultimately win the title they need to treat each game and opponent with equal amount of respect. kaizerchiefs.com caught up the number seven on Wednesday afternoon and got his thoughts around Saturday’s clash with Sundowns.

KC.COM: Kaizer a tough game lies ahead of Chiefs on Saturday, how have you been taking your preparations for the game?

KMJ: It is a tough game but to me it is like any other game in that we need to come out of the game with three points. Sundowns are a formidable opponent - they always have been - but we want the three points. Our preparations for the game have been progressing quite well. We have not had any new injuries, so everything is looking good for us at the moment.

KC.COM: Does coming up against a team like Sundowns at such a crucial stage in the league programme worry you at all?

KMJ: Not really you know the thing is that you have to play every team in the league whether you are on form or not, regardless of how you are playing sooner or later one will face them. The prospect of being able to take points off them and extend our lead is what is at stake for us, playing against Sundowns could not have come at a better time for us as well as them and the supporters will also welcome being able to see two top teams go at each other.

KC.COM: January was a challenging month for Chiefs with some good and some not so good results and performances. Are you fairly confident that the team has put behind their lesser performances of the season?

KJM: I feel that with our victory over Ajax we have been able to turn a corner, one which we might have been sitting on the kerb for a while, winning against Ajax was a step in the right direction and we need to continue heading in that same winning way. We have three tough outings in February first up is Sundowns followed by Golden Arrows and Bidvest Wits, we play another two title challengers and again we need to take points off them to keep our momentum going. At the moment the team is looking good every one is working together and our aim remains to stay out in front in the title race.

KC.COM: On a personal note you have been the flag bearer for Chiefs in attack for most of the season, you have played alongside four different players up front in attack, which one of these guys do you enjoy playing with the most?

KMJ: I really have not found it difficult adapting to playing with any of the guys, for me it is a blessing just to be given the opportunity by the coach to be out on the field of play. Every time I am given the opportunity to play I try to make the most of it and am not really concerned with who my strike partner is because we all work together for the same goal and that is to find goals.

KC.COM: To end off Kaizer over the season your goal scoring attributes have ensured that the glare of the media is on you - how do you deal with being in the spotlight?

KMJ: I am not really one who enjoys the limelight. Playing well and getting goals -that it is my passion and if I help the team and see happy fans going home that pleases me. When it comes to the spotlight being on me I firmly believe that it shifts from day to day and one day you the next best thing in the eyes of the media and a few days later you out of it. One should not get carried away by what is being said about you out there because the tide can turn, it can be challenging not to get carried away with fame but being boastful and showing off does not help. Here today, gone tomorrow - that is how the media is.
