Santos cashing in on Amakhosi

Despite complaints by Kaizer Chiefs to the Premier Soccer League about ticket prizes, other clubs have continued to charge supporters above the normal rate, this time with defending league champions Santos taking advantage of Amakhosi’s pulling power.

The PSL had previously introduced a R15 maximum charge after a decision that the home team should pocket 100 percent of the profit from the gate takings.

Chiefs sent a letter to PSL chief executive Trevor Phillips to highlight to unfair practice. The matter will be tabled at the next PSL executive committee meeting where a decision about pricing will be taken.

Santos host Chiefs at Athlone Stadium in what promises to be their biggest payday and they have taken advantage of this by charging supporters R20 for unreserved seats and R25 for open stands.

The argument by some teams that they have to increase the ticket prize to cover some of their costs like entertainment and security does not hold water.

For the record, Amakhosi organise the best possible pre-match entertainment that include a curtain raiser featuring the Iwisa Legends plus music entertainment to the tune of about R40 000 with kwaito stars like Kabelo, Mawilis, Alaska, Mafikizolo, Jabu and Vuyo without increasing the price.
