Sad twist for Nkambule
Sad twist for Nkambule

Posted in News on Mar 07, 2008.

Michael Nkambule who did a commendable job in the midfield after coming on as a second half substitute for Chiefs against Platinum Stars, during their midweek ABSA Premiership encounter has been ruled out of The Amakhosi’s up coming match with Free State match with an ankle injury.

The good news for Chiefs is that left winger Siphiwe Tshabalala will give The Amakhosi a timely boost on Friday with the news that he will be available to play against Free State Stars, when Chiefs travel to Phuthaditjaba for Sunday’s ABSA Premier League encounter. Joining Tshabalala amongst the players who have recovered from injury, is defender Jonathan Quartey, who will also be looking to make the journey to the Free State and will be hoping that his recent injury woes are well and truly behind him.

Twist of fate

After putting up an impressive second half performance during Chiefs draw against Platinum Stars, Nkambule would have favoured himself to perhaps see more game time against Free State Stars this weekend. In a somewhat bizarre twist of fate, the South Africa junior international twisted his ankle during training on Friday and has thus ruled himself out of Sunday’s clash. Nkambule is not expected to be out for too long and should be back in the reckoning for a place in the team when for the Nedbank Cup opener on the 14th March against Ajax Cape Town. In Durban

Returning hope

Tshabalala has worked his way back to full fitness after being temporarily sidelined by a knee injury he picked up when Chiefs took on Ajax Cape Town a week ago, also back from a lung infection which saw him miss the Ajax and Platinum Stars games is Quartey. The former Ashanti Goldfields player said to kaizerchiefs..com on Friday, “I want to play on Sunday so that I can work my way back to form and my aim is to play a big role in the Nedbank Cup matches as well. I have had a bad run of luck with injuries and I feel fit and believe that run is now behind me and I have a lot of positive things to look forward to”.
