Obua only interest is to play

David Obua has laughed off a story that recently appeared in a weekly football publication saying that there was too much politics at the club and as a result he had only one option and that was to leave Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the season.

The lanky Ugandan international who has been hard at work trying to earn himself a place in the team for Sunday’s ABSA Premiership match against Mamelodi Sundowns, says that words attributed to him where he talks about a division in the team are mischevious.

While he would like to in time pursue a career in Europe it would not be without the club's consent and right at the moment he believes that being able to get back into the Chiefs starting eleven, will help him go a step closer to realizing his dream of one day playing in one of the worlds bigger leagues.

Not mine

Obua in response to the allegations alleged to have been made by him around being disharmony in the team said, “ I never said anything of the sort that there was politics which was affecting our performances. Look at the way this team has played over the last couple of matches I do not think that any team with problems will be able to produce the kind of results that we have. The competition for places in the team right now is fiercest and trying to get in is hard, because of what we have achieved recently so why would I be saying that our performance is being affected by problems that fundamentally do not exists”.

Playing on

Obua, who was a hit with the fans during his first season with Chiefs in 2005 – 2006, has big ambitions. He wants to help the Ugandan national team qualify for the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations and 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The only way he believes he can be an asset for the Cranes is by continuing to play well at club level. “My country have huge expectations from me and I cannot let them down by letting up or taking it easy. I have to continue to give more than I have, Chiefs have given me the opportunity to become an important player for Uganda so why would I not be grateful for that. The only thing that I am thinking about right now is to get a chance to play against Sundowns on Sunday, in the past I have played against them and thoroughly enjoyed the matches”.
