Nkosi set to dazzle

When out on the field of play Kaizer Chiefs, midfield wizard Siyabonga Nkosi can be described as a craftsman at work as he dismantles defence after defence, with his craftiness and sublime skill.

Nkosi made a welcome return to the Chiefs starting line-up last weekend as he laboured endlessly and played a major hand, in helping his team gain their first win of 2007. He was also unfortunate not to have found his way onto the list of goal scorers against Benoni Premier United, as he had a second half free-kick taken from an acute angle crash against the Premier United goal.

After sitting out The Amakhosi’s game against Silver Stars the previous Wednesday as he was serving a one game suspension, Nkosi came back in the strongest possible way against Premier United with a scintillating performance against the rabbits.

With another must-win game against Cosmos on Sunday, Nkosi is ready to once again pack his best game for the meeting with Ezenkosi. The hard-working Nkosi who has been labouring all week in training is wary of Cosmos, despite the fact that they have parted ways with top scorer Chris Katongo. He believes they are still a force to be reckoned with.

Cosmos, Nkosi believes, will provide Chiefs with a tough test of character when the teams meet on Sunday. “They showed us earlier in the season when we played them in Johannesburg that they not going to give any quarter. If we want to get anything out of this game on Sunday we need to be ready for an energy draining game, which will require a lot of probing from us.

“If you let up they will punish you as we seen when they took a two goal lead against us in September, we then had to chase the game and although we eventually came back to win a point that should not have been the case,” added Nkosi.

The Chiefs maestro believes that Chiefs need to take the lessons learnt from the last league game they played against Cosmos, into Sunday’s and should they do so they will have gone a long way towards winning the game.

Nkosi further explained; “we saw in September that Cosmos counter attacked us very fast and before we knew it were two goals down, for us it is important to ensure that we can keep control of the game and dictate the pace and let them chase us instead of the other way around. We could have won the September game; despite having to fight back from two goals down we created enough opportunities to have gotten three points out of that encounter.”

When questioned about how he saw Sunday’s game panning out Nkosi said; “after winning against Benoni our confidence is back up to the same level that it was just prior to the festive break, we have a number of guys back from injury so I do feel that we have a lot going for us and should be able to win the game”.

What of the opposition who go into Sunday’s game on the back of a four nil win over third placed Bidvest Wits; “to win so emphatically against a team like Wits who have themselves been doing well, demonstrated Cosmos resurgence if we want to win the league then we need to beat the teams who are on top of their game like Cosmos are at the moment”.

Going into Sunday’s match second place Chiefs are four places above Cosmos who with their win over Bidvest Wits climbed up almost a number of places in the standings, with both teams displaying good form in recent times Sunday’s game should be just as exciting a game as the 2-2 draw played out by the teams on the 13th September.

Like his current form, Siyabonga Nkosi’s confidence is sky high and if that is anything to go by then Chiefs should be in with a great chance of improving their second place league standing on Sunday.
