Ditheko Mototo tells kaizerchiefs.com that he is not disheartened by the fact that he was substituted midway through the first half on Saturday evening during The Amakhosi’s ABSA Premiership match against SuperSport United in Tshwane.

Mototo, who usually plays as an attacking left back, was used in an experimental role by Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral during the SuperSport encounter, and was played as a left winger by Ertugral. Mototo was then sacrificed midway through the first half and made way for Siphiwe Tshabalala, but despite this the 27 year old, who since his debut for Chiefs, has played 52 games the club since making his debut for The Amakhosi in November 20, remains upbeat about getting back into the first team playing in his more favoured role as a left back.

Not disheartened

Mototo has explained that him playing as left winger was an experiment and even though he did not work in that role, he believes that within the next couple of weeks he would like to be playing first team football.

“Football is football you have to take the good with the bad” adds Mototo.

“In this game you try things and it does not work. I am not upset at being substituted because the coach told me he was just trying something new and I am not used to playing as a left winger. Obviously I am doing something correct that is why the coach thought that he needed to include me in his plans for the match, so all I have to do is continue probing for a place in the team”.

Tough competitor

Mototo does believe that it will take an extra special effort from him to over take Onismor Bhasera as the natural choice for the left back slot.

“When you're in a team and there is a guy playing ahead of you in the starting eleven, you normally feel why is he playing instead of me. I think that Onismor has done extremely well and deserves to be starting at left back. His performances speak for themselves, and demonstrate that he is one of the best left backs in the league”.

Mototo believes that the competition for the left back slot between him and Onismor is a healthy one and good for the team.

“There was a time when I was the new guy and came and took some ones place, it is good for the team if there are so many good players available for the same positions”.
