“Games between Kaizer Chiefs and Amazulu are tantamount to derby” this is how former Kaizer Chiefs legend, Ntsie Maphike described the games between the two football giants. The man affectionately known as “Teargas” took time to speak to kaizerchiefs.com in this edition of Memoirs.

“The Mainstay Cup final in 1987 will always be in my memory. I remember in that game I played as right back and I was involved in creating the only goal of the match that was scored by Marks Maponyane” reveals Maphike.

“Both team had great players; we had Teenage Dladla, Sylvester Kole, the late Ace Ntsoelengoe and many others. On the other side Amazulu had the likes Archie Hadebe, Junior Njiyela, Julius Chirwa and many others. The game was played at a packed Ellis Park.

I remember it was in that game that Archie Radebe dribbled everyone including the keeper...he had already started celebrating when he pushed the ball just wide” remembered the Kaizer Chiefs U15 coach who admitted that he is still crazy about Kaizer Chiefs as he was during his teen years.

“Amazulu do not stand any chance of beating Chiefs even on Saturday”, he said confidently.

“I have been following the team very carefully. I believe that we will walk all over Amazulu come Saturday; the win against Celtic was the boost our guys needed to get back on track”.

The former Kaizer Chiefs left back had a lot of praise for the current no.3, Zimbabwean flying left back, Onismor Bhasera.

“He is currently the best left back in the league. He is up there with the likes of Tshepo Masilela,” he said. “I always look at who plays as a left back but today games are lost and won in the midfield,” he concluded.
