Collins Mbesuma scored a brace as the Mighty Amakhosi raced to victory, albeit late, scoring three goals in the last 20 minutes with David Mathebula opening the scoring in the 74th minute.

The game started at a swift pace with both teams creating quality goal scoring chances, however excellent goalkeeping from Walter Khumalo and Rowen Fernandez kept the strikers, who were often too casual in finishing, from beating them.

Fernandez was the busier of the two in the first stanza as he made good saves from Mulondo Sikhwivhilu, Tebogo Mashaba and former Chiefs defender Peter Matshitse.

Rudzani Ramudzuli arguably had the best chance to score for the hosts when he beat Simphiwe Mkhonza to the ball but his shot just went wide, with Fernandez stranded.

The visitors striking duo of Mbesuma and David Radebe were unlucky not to score, although the latter missed the better of the chances presented.

Bevan Fransman, getting a rare start for the Amakhosi in defence, set-up the Zambian international after 30 minutes played, charging down the left flank but the striker's shot was partially saved by Khumalo and hastily cleared off the line by a Leopards defender.

Fransman also provided a telling pass for the hapless Radebe when the defender cut down the right flank, leaving his opposition for dead. The former Free State Stars striker stretched to get a touch to the ball but that did not bother Khumalo at all.

With Radebe missing a few opportunities Matshitse and company marked Mbesuma tightly and the threat he presented diminished as the half went by.

The pace of the match simmered down in the last 10 minutes with neither team being able to breach each other’s wobbly defence.

The instructions from Chiefs coach, Ted Dumitru, was clear for the second half as the Glamour boys started testing Khumalo with long range efforts.Emmanuel ‘Scare’ Ngobese took shots from outside the 18-yeard area but the home keeper was hardly tested by any of the dribbling wizard’s attempts.

In the 67th minute Mbesuma lingered in the goal area after being set up by Mathebula and a timely tackle had the ball rolling to the feet of Ngobese whose chip at goal was desperately cleared off the line.

Ngobese did however breach the Leopards defence when he assisted Mathebula with a simple tap-in in the 75th minute.The aforementioned beat two defenders and played the ball across the goalmouth,with the keeper out of position the dread-locked midfielder put his team into the lead with ease.

Three minutes later substitute Lucky Mzizi brilliantly threaded the ball through the wounded Leopards defence to set-up Mbesuma for his eighth goal of the season.

Khumalo was quick off his line nonetheless the Chipolopolo star remained composed and struck the ball into the back of the net to send the Chiefs faithful into celebration.

Fabian McCarthy replaced Fransman after 85 minutes as the lanky defender picked up an injury. The late substitution worked in Chiefs favour as the burly McCarthy aided Mbesuma with a goal in extra time.

A static Leopards defence watched as the replacement rolled the ball into the path of a speeding Mbesuma who, running in from the left, placed his shot beyond the reach of a beaten keeper.

Although Lidoda Duvha held their own against the Soweto giants for the better part of an entertaining game, the loss sees them drop to sixth place while the defending league champions jump to fourth place - temporarily - with 18 points, 10 behind log leaders Orlando Pirates.
