With Amakhosi coach Muhsin Ertugral in Germany attending to some family matters, it was left to his assistant Fani Madida to carry out training exercises on Wednesday.

Madida and goalkeeper coach Rainer Dinkelacker were greeted by injuries as Chiefs got back two work after having been given off on Monday and Tuesday. A calf injury to Jonathan Quartey kept him out of training on Monday, while defender Sihle Mbambo was rushed off to see a specialist after he had returned with a knee problem.

Midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala will be unable to take any part in Chiefs next league match which is on the 26th April, as he collected his third booking of the season on Sunday when Chiefs lost to Sundowns. The Bafana Bafana midfielder will watch from the sidelines as The Amakhosi try to consolidate their place in the top eight, next Saturday evening when they play Santos at the ABSA Stadium in Durban.

Mbambo Meniscus worry

Mbambo was sent to a specialist for a second opinion after he complained of a problem with his right knee. Amakhosi physiotherapist David Milner spelt out to kaizerchiefs.com what could damage Mbambo could have done to his knee. As he said “Sihle landed awkwardly on his knee when trying to stand from a sitting position, the true extent of his injury are not exactly known to us. We will know once he has had a scan done on his knee, how long we expect him to be out of action for what is known is that he as done damage to his Meniscus”.

Pain

Speaking to kaizerchiefs.com on Wednesday afternoon upon his return from the specialist, Mbambo spoke of the pain he is in “ I am feeling really sore every time I put pressure on the knee it really hurts a lot”. On his visit to the specialist he added “the specialist concurred with our medical team and also feels that I have probably done damage to my meniscus. Being a young professional I do not have much experience with these kinds of injuries, my hope is that I will be able to over come it as soon as possible all I can do now is wait for the results of the scan”.
