After a successful trip to Cape Town three days ago when they kicked off their 2025/26 season, Kaizer Chiefs are back in action as they welcome Polokwane City at home, FNB Stadium, for the first time this season in what will be their second match of the new Betway Premiership campaign.
Amakhosi come in to the match after collecting three valuable points against Stellenbosch FC on Sunday in their opening fixture, while Rise and Shine played to a goalless stalemate against neighbours Magesi FC on Saturday.
In Coach Nasreddine Nabi’s absence, assistant coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef will once again be guiding the team.
The coaching team is delighted to have winger Pule Mmodi back in the team after missing the first game through suspension. However, the winger will start on the bench.
There are two changes in the team that started Sunday’s game. Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, who scored the first goal of the season for Amakhosi on Sunday, makes way for Sibongiseni Mthethwa in midfield, and the young Naledi Hlongwane will be replaced by Gaston Sirino.
The rest of the team is unchanged as goalkeeper, Brandon Petersen starts.
The back four will see Bradley Cross on the left, Aden McCarthy, who was selected as Sunday’s man of the match and Inacio Miguel playing at the centre of defence, with Thabiso Monyane completing the back four running on the right.
Mthethwa will hold the midfield.
Thabo Cele and Mduduzi Shabalala combine in the attacking midfield role. Flankers are Glody Lilepo who moves to the right and Sirino cutting in from the left.
Amakhosi’s target man is Wandile Duba.
It will be a 4-1-4-1 formation for this evening’s encounter.
The match officials are referee Sikhumbuzo Gasa, assistant referees Lalelani Mngadi and Bongani Matete. The fourth official is Joseph Makubu.
Amakhosi’s second Betway Premiership match of the 2025/26 season against Rise & Shine will start at 19:30 at FNB Stadium. The match will be live on SuperSport’s channel 202, with live commentary on various SABC radio stations. There will be live updates on the Club’s X (formerly known as Twitter) account, @kaizerchiefs.
