Masango to learn from the past
Masango to learn from the past

Amakhosi midfielder Mandla Masango drawing on his experiences from the past three seasons in the Absa Premiership believes that it is imperative for the Amakhosi to kick off the 2010 – 2011 PSL season with a win in their opening fixture on Saturday evening against Golden Arrows at the Rand Stadium in Johannesburg.

Masango is looking to avoid a repeat of last season when Chiefs started the season slowly and lost early ground in the title race, as he explained to kaizerchiefs.com saying. “Last season we did not begin well and even though we did better as the season progressed, dropping early points ultimately put us behind the rest of the front teams from the word go.”

This time around the nimble footed Masango believes that a victory in their opening match will be the perfect tonic to give Chiefs the boost needed for a successful season, “we have to learn from our past mistakes and ensure they not replicated again this season.

It is important that we win against Arrows as that will put us in the correct frame of mind for our next match, ending off the first weekend of the new season with a win should be our target. You want to look at the first league table of the new season and see your team out in front”.

With victory in the Telkom Charity Cup as well as a win over Bloemfontein Celtic in the MTN 8 Quarter Finals, the South Africa U-23 international holds the view that Chiefs have already put themselves in a good position psychologically as the start of the new season approaches.

“We knew we needed to put in a lot of extra work in the off season and everyone has done that” explained Masango before moving on to add, “when the season proper gets underway we just need to carry on with what has already been put into place technically and tactically by the coach and everything will work out.”
