In a bid to strengthen the Communications Division, Kaizer Chiefs is pleased to welcome the services of former KICKOFF magazine reporter, Luthando Zibeko as the new Media Liaison Officer. Much as there has been a lot of attention to the personnel on the field, the machinery behind the scenes is being strengthened too and more announcements are yet to follow.

The bid to reinforce the Communications Division is an integral part to an ongoing strategic repositioning of the Kaizer Chiefs brand in the fast growing football industry.

“Trompies” as he is affectionately known was a ‘guest player’ for Amakhosi during last year’s preseason where he got to train with the first team and participated in various team activities including Corporate Social Responsibility program in Durban ahead of the Vodacom Challenge game against Tottenham Hotspur.

“I might have impressed the management with my skills off the field” he says jokingly.

“On serious a note though, I am honoured to have joined this wonderful club. It is the best thing to have happened to both my family and myself. I have always admired the Club growing up in a small village in Tsomo. The opportunity to work here should inspire all the young ones from historically disadvantaged areas to not only dream but also live up to their dreams. Kaizer Chiefs is the biggest soccer establishment in the country and has given me an opportunity to live my dream,” he says.

“The task that goes with this job is a mammoth one, and offers me an opportunity to learn more not only about Kaizer Chiefs as a brand but the soccer industry at large. I am particularly pleased to say that I am working with a wonderful team that shares a common goal and vision for Kaizer Chiefs, “to become a globally competitive brand that is commercially viable”. “I must also hasten to say that Yusuf Muhammad has laid a commendable foundation to build up from, I definitely big shoes to fill,” he says.

Luthando adds that,” Few people know that during my time at the University of Western Cape I established the first ever Kaizer Chiefs Supporters Club at the university. This gave me an opportunity to interact with different structures of the Club. The role is different now, it is important that Kaizer Chiefs is accessible to the media and our primary role is to ensure that happens. Plans are underway to revamp the media and communications structures of the Club”

Over and above his role as a reporter at Kickoff, Luthando worked as a Script Writer for this year’s current edition of Coca Cola Football Stars. He was also a radio soccer analyst with SABC Sport. He also had a stint in both Black Empowerment Division and Communications Department of the National Department of Transport.

We are happy to welcome Luthando to the Kaizer Chiefs Family!
