LOC equips football fanatics ahead of Confed opening match

The Local Organising Committee for the FIFA 2010 World Cup was down to business this morning at the Ellis Park Stadium, on an awareness and educational mission to equip football fanatics with the dos and donts ahead of the eagerly awaited Confederations Cup opening match between Bafana Bafana and Iraq.



Supporters and general football fanatics were randomly invited to attend a dry-run at the Ellis Park before they were given a handy low-down to the last detail of all security and safety logistics, spectators will have to go through prior getting to the stadium. The Amakhosi faithful who were on hand to grapple with all the desired co-operation and spectator behaviour as spelled out by the LOC security personnel.



“It is encouraging to see that the organizers, who are responsible for the Confederations Cup, involve us before hand to acquaint us of what is expected of us ahead of the Confederations Cup. I hope the media will also do its bit in educating all the supporters about these issues” said the Amakhosi loyalist Nelly Kubayi who was in a company of the well known Masilo Machaka (both Chiefs supporters)



The dry-run dealt with issues that range from park & ride facilities, restricted objects at the stadium, the essence of arriving early at the stadium and law enforcement to those who will not comply with safety and security requirements.



“We are more than confident that football lovers will come to play in observing all spectator compliance issues. South Africans have already done us proud by buying their tickets on time, a culture we only hope will continue to gain momentum. They are well aware that making Confederations Cup and 2010 World Cup a resounding success, is everybody’s responsibility” remarked Kaizer Chiefs Public Relations Manager, Siyabulela ‘24/7’Makunga.



Leeroy Sidambe of the Stewards Co-Ordinator gave kaizerchiefs.com a low down of the process that spectators need to follow when attending Confed games.



• Departure from home


• Drive to the Nasrec Exhibition Centre, Gate 5 & 6 (one of the Park and Ride facilities)


• Produce your ticket to the security personnel;


• Leave your car at the Park & Ride facility


• Jump into a bus


• Drop off zone about 300m from the turnstile


• Receive assistance from the security personnel


• Walk through a Walk through Metal detector


• Security with hand held metal detector to search spectator if a beep sound goes on, the security will request to search you (if agreed and clean you go ahead, but if you refused to be searched you will not be allowed to proceed from this point).


• From this point you will then proceed to the turnstiles where Stewards will ask for your ticket were they will do security checks if the ticket is valid or not. (if ticket is valid you will be allowed to go through if not you will be taken to a ticket clearing point where your ticket will be verified by trained ticket experts. If there is a ticket issuing error you will then be issued with another ticket but if it is a fraudulent ticket you will be surrendered to the SAPS who will then arrest you and take you to a Venue Court which will be operational during match time for prosecution)


• After passing through the turnstiles volunteers will then direct you to your respective seat as indicated in your ticket


• A Commercial Area is also set up just after you enter for refreshments (beer garden)
