Khune on the mend

Itumeleng Khune is recovering after spending three days in hospital last week. The Kaizer Chiefs keeper was admitted after he complained of long spells of dizziness. He was forced to dropout of the national under-23 squad ahead of their Olympic qualifier in Ethiopia.

“It was difficult because I could not concentrate and I had dizziness the whole time, so I could not travel with the team, which was really disappointing for me, as I wanted to play that game.” His dizziness was caused by him suffering from sinusitis and from a previous head injury caused by collison with teammate Rotson Kilambe.

Khune’s Amaglug-glug teammates went on to register a credible 2-2 result in Addis Ababa to begin their Olympic dream campaign on a positive note. “It was a very good result. If we can get draws away from home, and win in South Africa, then we should go through to the finals.”

Khune will be looking to be part of the team when the next set of qualifiers come around in late August. “We want to be in Beijing and we can are confident we can overcome the other teams and qualify.”

Khune is resting up in the off-season because of the injury. Usually I would be quite active but for now I’m resting so I recover and will be fit to start pre season training on the 25th of June.”
