Former Orlando Pirates captain Jimmy Tau has jumped ship and signed with archrivals Kaizer Chiefs on a three-year deal, the club confirmed on Thursday.

"We were engaged in talks with Jimmy after he received his clearance. We finally came to an agreement on Thursday and he signed a three-year deal with us. He is one of the new players that were unveiled to the media," said club chairman Kaizer Motaung.

The 25-year-old Kimberley-born defender, whose contract with Pirates expired at the end of June was subsequently handed his clearance on Wednesday, and will soon be seen sporting the black-and-gold colours of Amakhosi instead of the black-and-white of the Buccaneers, a team he captained to a second position finish at the end of the 2004/05 campaign.

"We know that he is a great player. He did well for Orlando Pirates. Of course players have to look at their future and weigh various options and I think he felt he needed to make a move and we welcome him to our fold.

"One issue I must also raise is the fact that it’s not the first time Jimmy comes to Chiefs. When he started his career he came to Chiefs and then coach Muhsin Ertugral was undecided on the matter, hence he ended up at Maritzburg City and then Pirates," Motaung said.

Meanwhile, Amakhosi have successfully acquired work permits for two of their foreign signings, Serge Djiehoua as well as Louis Agyemang.

The team also confirmed the signing of left-back Ditheko Mototo from Bloemfontein Young Tigers.
