Kaizer Chiefs, led by Brand Manager, Dara Carroll and Head Coach, Vladimir Vermezovic, including the entire team, took time off between training sessions to join hundreds of Vodacom staff and soccer fans in celebrating the milestone.
“I am grateful for what this country has done for me and my family. South Africa is a wonderful country that has given me life and, most of all, has given me an opportunity to play football. I am as excited as everyone, as June 11, the day when the World Cup kicks in, is approaching fast. No one should miss this wonderful spectacle. It then becomes very important that South Africans and Africans look after themselves so that they can say they were there,” said an emotional Nengomasha.
“South Africa is ready to welcome some of the best players in the world. I am fortunate to have played in some of the stadiums that are going to host the World Cup. They are, in my opinion, on a par with some of the stadiums I have played at in the two Africa Cup of Nations Tournaments I have played in, including stadiums in Korea where the tournament was played in 2002,” the “General” told kaizerchiefs.com.
Nengomasha revealed that he has already bought his Bafana Bafana jersey and will be rooting for them during the tournament. “I am confident that the boys are not going to disappoint. I am sure that the team is going to do us proud during the tournament.”
“Nengo”, as the player is affectionately known at the Village, went further to suggest that England are the favourites to lift the trophy on July 11, “They invented the game of football and now that they have a good team and a good coach they are coming here as favourites. One cannot count out the pedigree of Brazil though,” added Nengomasha.
