Cup elimination not an option - Nengomasha

Tinashe Nengomasha is still hurting at the fact that Chiefs have been eliminated from the last four Nedbank Cup competitions in dramatic circumstance’s, the Amakhosi’s midfield enforcer is determined to put that right this season.

Talking to kaizerchiefs.com about his desire to go all the way and win the Nedbank Cup this season as Chiefs prepare to kick off their 2011 Nedbank Cup campaign this weekend against national first division outfit Nathi Lions Nengomasha said.

“For a team like us who usually do well in Cup competitions it is un acceptable for us that we did not go the distance in the past few Nedbank Cup tournaments, we cannot dwell on the past because we cannot rewrite it but we can make sure that we script a positive outcome for our future.”

Tinashe furthermore believes that losing to teams from the first division in the past two Nedbank Cup competitions has ensured that the team are not complacent ahead of their clash with Nathi Lions.

As he explained saying, “over the past couple of days the guys have put in a lot in training, we preparing with the same intensity that we would for any high profile game so to say. We do not want a repeat of the last two seasons, we want to go out there on Sunday be clinical and professional and get the job done.”

What Tinashe is hoping to avoid is a repeat of the pain the Amakhosi suffered after their Cup eliminations in recent seasons, “it was a terrible feeling last season and the three before that because of the way we went out of the Nedbank.

Those defeats on penalties to Arrows and then Sundowns thereafter to the University of Pretoria and last season to FC Cape Town, were not easy to take and I do not want to go through that again also its heart breaking for the fans if we eliminated early on in the competition.”

Over his time at Chiefs Tinashe has won the Telkom Knockout Cup five times and the MTN8 twice but has picked up just one winners medal in the Nedbank Cup and he feels this is the season that can be altered.

“This Cup has been elusive for me with just that one victory in 2005 – 2006, I think mostly in this competition we have been unlucky and in my time we have been eliminated three times on penalties.

This is the year for us to change our luck. We have a good team and one with sufficient know how to get us past this tricky opening game.”
