The 2007 Kaizer Chiefs executive golf day held at the Bryanston Country Club in Sandton north of Johannesburg on Monday; saw a field of 120 participants comprised of Chiefs administrative employees, players, sponsors representatives as well as various other partners of Kaizer Chiefs, Including club chairman and marketing manager Jessica Motaung were part of the field that battled it out to see who would prevail in the 2007 Kaizer Chiefs executive Golf day.

A number of iconic South African sporting figures were amongst the crowd including former Kaizer Chiefs, Bafana Bafana and Leeds United defender Lucas Radebe.

Radebe who was part of a four ball that included Chiefs director Abdool Hamid Muhammad, was his usual jovial self and remarked when asked about his love for the game of golf. Radebe jokingly answered “I was never really good at soccer so when I retired from football, I thought to myself that I need to take up a sport where I can do well at so I started playing golf”.

The enigmatic and energetic Radebe did not end there and said “at the Kaizer Chiefs golf day I have the opportunity to show that I am talented at some kind of sport, I really am happy to have been invited to the Bryanston Country club to be apart of this occasion”.

Another South African sporting legend in attendance at Monday’s event was former Proteas cricketer Jonty Rhodes, who had just recently returned from the ICC World Cup in the Caribbean where he worked closely with the South African Cricket team. Rhodes was at the Kaizer Chiefs executive golf day as a guest of Standard Bank who in addition to being a sponsor of Chiefs were also the title sponsor of the Kaizer Chiefs executive Golf Day.

Rhodes when commenting on his love for knocking around a different kind of white ball now that his playing days are over said, “as a cricketer I found that the ball moved very fast whenever it came off the bat. I think more often than not the ball was quicker than me, these days I prefer golf because here I get to decide how hard and how fast the ball travels. Furthermore I would like to thank Kaizer Chiefs and Standard Bank for inviting me to the Bryanston Country Club for this marvellous occasion”.

Andisa Ntsubane from Standard Banks Group Sponsorship Division was pleased to be associated with the Kaizer Chiefs Executive Golf Day; in addition he was also happy with the turn out at the Bryanston Course. Ntsubane said “over the past couple of months we have been strengthening our relationship with Chiefs by getting involved in a number of projects with them.

In February Standard Bank hosted a number of players and their families at the Wanderers Stadium at an international Cricket match, on Monday we were part of a very professionally run golf day. I must compliment Chiefs on the way they organized the event, Jessica and her team did an excellent job on the day and from Standard Banks I can safely say all of our guests had a really good time”.

Once proceedings had come to an end late on Monday afternoon the competitors headed to the clubhouse for the prize giving ceremony, where the best four ball were rewarded for their efforts and received television sets with a combined value of

R40 000.

The winning quartet comprised of three Kaizer Chiefs employees in the form of Youth Development Co-Ordinator Vincent Williams, Goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez, Striker Shaun Bartlett and Mr. Phillip Ephron. In a truly heart warming gesture Rowen Fernandez and Shaun Bartlett opted to donate their prizes to charity, with both players declaring that the televisions would be put to better use at the Carroll Shaw Memorial Trust, as they feel that the televisions would serve the trust homes better.
