Coca-Cola Cup champions Kaizer Chiefs collected a number of accolades at the annual Coca-Cola Cup Awards in Johannesburg on Thursday night.

Midfielder Emmanuel "Scara" Ngobese was voted the Coca-Cola Cup Flair Player with goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez coming second along with Collins Mbesuma and Richard Rantjie of Supersport United.

Coach Ted Dumitru was voted the Flair Coach with communications manager Putco Mafani taking the prize in the Flair Club Official category.

  • PANEL COMMENTS: He has a superb ability to motivate the fans, is articulate, knowledgeable of the team and football in general and his background in Media makes him an excellent club representative to be interviewed, particularly on radio, therefore colourfully promotes his team.

    THE PANEL OF JUDGES FELT THERE WAS NO HUMANITARIAN OR GENTLEMANLY INCIDENT THAT EPITOMISED EXCEPTIONAL GOOD WILL TO WARRANT WINNING THIS AWARD.

  • PANEL COMMENTS: A coach of a team that scored the most goals and made telling substitutions to come back from the brink of defeat in the semifinals. He built a team that was entertaining to watch and maximised the skills he had to work with.

  • RUNNERS-UP: FRANCIS CHANSA (ORLANDO PIRATES – V SUNDOWNS IN 21ST MIN) ,ROWEN FERNANDEZ (KAIZER CHIEFS – V GOLDEN ARROWS IN 19TH MIN)

  • PANEL COMMENTS: The ball was hit with pace, dipping and swerving down low to the right of the goalkeeper making it a difficult save.

  • PANEL COMMENTS: The shot was taken from a distance with ferocity and precision and the fact that it was also taken on the outside of the foot makes it more memorable. A goal that neither this player, nor any other, will do again in the near future.

  • PANEL COMMENTS: The team not only scored the most goals, but had thousands of fans on the edge of their seats throughout the competition. They were entertaining to watch, skillful and played positive attacking football that brought results.

  • PANEL COMMENTS: David showed excellent ability and versatility and was able to work with different camera’s well, particularly the Super Slomo. His attitude was good and was always willing to help and learn.

  • WINNER: ROBERT MARAWA (LADUMA)

  • MERITS: THOMAS MLAMBO (SUPERSPORT), DESHI BAKTAWER (LADUMA)

  • PANEL COMMENTS: He was credible, authoritative, composed, articulate and his overall experience and confidence was evident in his presenting. He has excellent knowledge of the Clubs and players.

  • WINNER: MARK GLEESON (SUPERSPORT)

  • MERITS: JOE HUDLA (LADUMA), THABISO TEMA (LADUMA)

  • PANEL COMMENTS: Mark was extremely knowledgeable about the teams and players and included off-the-field information and antics that were interesting. He was able to set the mood which included the build up to the games and was articulate. His dry sense of humour was entertaining and colourful and brought an additional element of intrigue to his commentary.

  • PANEL COMMENTS: Sibusiso used cut away’s and slo-mo’s to keep attention and captured all the highlights successfully. His inclusion of the fans added to capturing the excitement of the game.

  • PANEL COMMENTS: This Semifinal production was slick and captured the excitement of the game as well as the mood of the fans. The use of cameras, slo-mo’s and close up’s enhanced the entire production which included a host of flair moments.

  • PANEL COMMENTS: His preparation, presentation style, creativity and originality were excellent and journalistic abilities and questions were relevant and knowledgeable.

  • WINNER: ROBERT MARAWA (METRO FM)

  • MERITS: KWENA MOABELO (KAYA FM), AARON ‘SHADOW’ MASEMOLA (IKWEKWEZI FM)

  • PANEL COMMENTS: Robert won this award for his understanding of sports issues, his preparation, originality, not being afraid to tackle hot topics, good command of the language, creativity and inimitable style of broadcasting.

  • WINNER :THABO KOFA (LESEDI FM)

  • MERITS: RUDOLPH LETSOALO (THOBELA FM), ZINGISILE MATHISO (UMHLOBO WENENE FM)

  • PANEL COMMENTS: He prepared well for all broadcasts and was able to apply radio as the theatre of the mind. His work was original and creative and his style attractive and catchy. His knowledge was excellent. He has developed maturity in his broadcasts.

  • PANEL COMMENTS: The timing was excellent, the action good and it was an unusual and difficult picture to capture.

  • WINNER: KGOMOTSO MOKOENA (SUNDAY TIMES)

  • PANEL COMMENTS: The panel felt this award should be given this year in place of the Community Print award, which did not produce good quality articles. This young promising journalist shows exceptional talent but is not given the space to make full use of his creativity. He should go far in the future.

  • WINNER: MATSHELANE MAMABOLO (SATURDAY STAR)

  • MERITS: S’BUSISO MSELEKU (CITY PRESS)

  • PANEL COMMENTS: His winning articles include a profile on Innocent Chikoya and Reagan Noble. They were incisive, in depth, informative and his attention to detail and use of quotes was exceptional.

  • PANEL COMMENTS: He writes authoritatively and with style. He has good use of language as well as structure to his writing. He has the

    ability to hold the interest of the reader.

  • MERITS: VINCENT MASHEGO (DAILY SUN), RAMATSIYI MOHOLOA (SOWETAN)

  • PANEL COMMENTS: His quality and depth of writing was good. As well as giving a blow by blow description of the game, this journalist also added colourful off-the-field elements to his match reports to make them more interesting.

  • PANEL COMMENTS: S’busiso used interesting choices of material reflecting on past issues linking them to the present showing he has exceptional knowledge of the game. The effort that went into research needs to be commended as it was this flair writing that added colour to his Coca-Cola Cup reports enhancing the excitement around the tournament.
