Kaizer Chiefs Football Club has rallied behind the initiative by government to combat crime in the country.

Three players, Jimmy Tau, Itumeleng Khune and Kaizer Motaung Jr attended the launch today (7th December) of the Gauteng Safety Programme for the Festive Season at Alexander Stadium following in invite from Deputy Minister of Police, Fikile Mbalula.

“Given the extent of appeal and adoration which your team have in the society in general and among young people in particular, the presence of your team players at the launch as well as their identification with the programme will by far, enhance its impact and inspire the broader community into positive action,” said the Deputy Minister’s Office on the letter addressed to Football Manager, Bobby Motaung.

Public Relations Manager, Thebe Mohatle who accompanied the players to the event expressed his delight for government to involve South Africa’s leading sporting brand in their fight against crime.

“Kaizer Chiefs is privileged to have been invited to take part in this initiative aimed at making our country not only a better place but a safer place as well ahead of the festive season and off course the World Cup in 2010.”

These kinds of partnerships between government and leading sporting brands and other stakeholders can go a long way in creating awareness to those who are perpetuating or thinking of perpetuating crime. The players were all pleased to be part of this event and hope to continue supporting such programmes in the future,” said Mohatle speaking to kaizerchiefs.com on Monday afternoon.
