Three years after the fateful night of April 11, 2001 officials of Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Ellis Park Stadium management are preparing to visit and hold a short prayer inside the stadium where the bodies of the 43 victims of that historical stampede laid cold bringing to a tragic end, a soccer game that had attracted both club’s supporters from all over the country.

In memory of this sad night staff members, players and friends of the three parties, including the Premier Soccer League and South African Football Association (SAFA) will converge at 08H00 at Gate 4, where most of the people suffered the crushing and they will move down to pray on the field. No speeches will be made, as it has been agreed by all parties concerned to commemorate this sad occurrence after every 5 years passing.

Families and friends of the victims and those who sustained injuries are welcome to join the prayer and conduct their rituals. The stadium gates will be open as early as 7am.

Candles will be burn throughout the day at the stands of both clubs inside Hall no. 10, which is known throughout the Rand Easter Show, as the Kaizer Chiefs-Orlando Pirates Expo Center, while solemn gospel and choral music will be played from the stands for the better part of the day.
