Kaizer Chiefs winning streak came to an end after Saturday afternoon when Amakhosi lost by 2-0 against archrivals, Orlando Pirates. In what was a sizzling heat in Mafikeng, Orlando Pirates started the game on fire and two goals one from Zimbabwean born striker, Gilbert Mushangazhike and the second one a tap in from Lucas Thwala were enough to hand Orlando Pirates their fourth win in a row.

The visitors made their intentions clear as early as the first minute when Teko Modise had his short parried away by goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune inside the second minute. Khune was called into action a minute later when he saved a header from Gilbert Mushangazhike who connected with Dikgang Mabalane’s cross.

The searing heat in Mafikeng forced the referee Jerome Damon, to give the players time to quench some thirst on the 20th minute. The ‘break’ worked for the visitors as they opened scoring immediately after the break when Gilbert Mushangazhike made no mistake after connecting a cross from the hard running Dikgang Mabalane. 1-0 to Orlando Pirates.

Itumeleng Khune who have not conceded a goal in the past three matches was forced to save twice from Mabalane. The first save was when he parried a dangerously looking cross and when he went down well to push Mabalane’s strike for a corner kick.

There was no denying the Buccaneers their second goal of the afternoon when Thwala scored from a close range following superb work by Dikgang Mabalane. A minute before that, Teko Modise had watched his shot coming off the post with Jonathan Quartey clearing the danger.

Kaizer Chiefs first chance of the game came when Senzo Meyiwa parried away Reneilwe Letsholonyane’s shot for a corner. Orlando Pirates went to halftime leading comfortable by two goals to nil.

In the beginning of the second half, Muhsin Ertugral brought on captain Jimmy Tau for Arthur Zwane and speedy, Thuso Phala for Reneilwe Letsholonyane. Immediately Chiefs started enjoying possession of the ball with Gert Schalkwyk coming close pulling one back when his header was saved by Senzo Meyiwa. This was following a good cross from Tinashe Nengomasha.

The Glamour Boys tried to claw their way back to the game but found it difficult to break Orlando Pirates defence.

It is back to a drawing board for the boys from Phefeni. The team will resume training on Monday without the services of the international players who are joining their respective national teams for the FIFA dates next week.

Through the Goals For Miracles campaign the two goals from Orlando Pirates raised a total charity funding of R100 000 (50 000 for each goal scored), to the benefit of the cataract operations performed through the South African National Council for the Blind (SANCB), the Pretoria Eye Institute’s Sight 4 U Cataract Project, and Netcare in association with Vodacom For You.

Goals For Miracles is a joint-initiative between Vodacom, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
