Kaizer Chiefs held three time Asian champions, Iran to a goalless draw in a friendly match that took place at the Vodacom Park in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

Coach, Vladimir Vermezovic had made few changes to the team that beat SuperSport United on Saturday last week in the Premier’s Cup. Long serving midfielder, Gerald Sibeko was given an armband and started alongside Reneilwe Letsholonyane in the middle of the park.

Knowledge Musona who was doubtful because of the injury started the game with Jose Torrealba who was wearing jersey no. 77 partnered with him up front but it was Sibeko who forced the Iranian goalkeeper to make a save midway first half.

Tso did well to control across from impressive Punch Masenamela but Iranian goalkeeper pulled a good save. His counterpart in the heart of the midfield, Letsholonyane who had a superb game also forced a good save out of the goalkeeper, 0-0 at halftime.

Vermezovic introduced midfielder, Josta Dladla, striker Nkosinathi Nhleko, and Tshepo Bulu during the second stanza and the Amakhosi created most of the opportunities but could not break Iranian well marshalled defence.

At the end of the day, the goalless draw was a true reflection of the proceedings. Coach Vermezovic who gave goalkeeper, Jacob Makhasi and few other players an opportunity to show what they can offer in the upcoming season would be a happy man with the commitment from his players.

The Glamour Boys' next asignment is the Vodacom Challenge clash against Manchester City on Tuesday, 21 July 2009.
