Kaizer Chiefs kept the pressure on Orlando Pirates when they

beat Ajax Cape Town 2-1 after leading 2-0 at the interval in a

Castle Premiership game played at Newlands on Sunday

afternoon.

Chiefs are now six points behind the log leaders with a match in

hand.

Both Chiefs' goals were controversial as they appeared to

have been scored from offsides positions. The chief culprit was

Collins Mbesuma who was often flagged for offsides and remonstrated

continually with the referee and the linesmen.

He eventually got himself booked in the 89th minute for kicking

the ball into the stands when flagged once again for being

offside.

The game was played at a fast pace and in the second minute

Arthur Zwane broke down the right, cut in, but his shot was well

saved by Moeneeb Josephs.

The ball was cleared up field and Wilfred Mugeyi's acute angle

shot was saved by a diving Rowen Fernandez for a corner.

From the resulting corner a melee formed, and Seuntjie

Motlhajwa's header was cleared off the line by a defender.

Two minutes later a Chiefs defender miskicked and Brent

Carelse's shot was blocked by Fernandez. Ajax kept up the pressure

and in the sixth minute Fernandez again had to dive full length

to save a header by Brett Evans.

Chiefs opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a

controversial goal. Mbesuma, who appeared to be offsides, ran

through and pushed the ball past Josephs.

In the 23rd minute Zwane, who had a good game, ran down the

right, cut in and brought the best out of Josephs.

In the 65th minute Chiefs doubled the score with what appeared

to be another offside goal when David Radebe ran through to score.

Ajax pulled one back in the 70th minute when Fernandez punched

the ball to Mfundo Shumana who rounded a defender before netting.

Evans came close to equalising in the 88th minute when a long

kick was not held by Fernandez but the defenders quickly scrambled

the ball way.
