Executive Chairman, the icon of South African football, Kaizer Motaung celebrates his 65th birthday on Friday having been born on this day back in 1944.

Known as “Chincha Guluva” during his playing days, Kaizer made his debut for Orlando Pirates at a tender age of 16 and joined Atlanta Chiefs in 1968 after impressing former West Ham United player, Phil Woosam (a manager at Atlanta Chiefs at that time). Kaizer came back into the country in 1969 to form what has turned to be the biggest sporting brand in the country, Kaizer Chiefs.

There was however no holiday for the Chairman who over the years has been among the first to arrive and the last to leave every day.

The Chairman shares his birthday with his older sister Zodwa who turns 67 today having been born in 1942.

His friends, colleagues, family, former teammates sent messages to kaizerchiefs.com;

Kaizer Chiefs MD, Bheki Shongwe & Family

We wish for you to continue to be a symbol of all that is great, to be a symbol and role model to all young and old Africans.”

With a daughter born only eight days before your birthday, the family has made sure your birthday will live with us for a very long time and may God continue to preserve you in the palm of his hands. Happy Birthda “Tau”,”

Teenage “Mgabadeli/Botsotso” Dladla (Kaizer Chiefs legend 1976-1989)

“Please send my regards to the legend, a father, a leader and icon of South African football, Kaizer Motaung. People may not be aware but Bra K is one of the reasons you will never see my in newspapers for wrong reasons today. He was like a father figure to me, very patient always showing me the way.

I owe him for everything he has done in my life and I would like to wish him and his family everything of the best. I wish that God blesses him more than he has already blessed him by turning Kaizer Chiefs to an iconic brand it is today,”

Chomane Chomane (Lesedi FM Breakfast Show Host and Friend to the Chairman)

“First it is very important for people to know that Bra K is my role model. I want to say to him today that he must continue developing and empowering the African child. I wish him all the best on his birthday and many more years to come. I wish that you take time today to relax with the Amakhosi Family. Happy Birthday Bra K,”

Johannes “Ryder”Mofokeng (Kaizer Chiefs legend & captain from 1975-1985)

“Bra K, this is a big thank you for huge impact you have had in my life, directly and indirectly. Previously and presently, I want to thank you especially your support, care, kindness, constructive debates, guidance, love and respect you gave us as players.

You were like a father, brother; a mentor, a friend and you provided a shoulder to cry on...without you, it would have been extremely difficult.

I wish you a happy birthday, and may your ageing mark the beginning of a tidal wave of love, blessing and bright future. Warmest wishes and God bless you.

Mr. Bantu Holomisa (President UDM & Friend to the Chairman)

Let the beauty that is in God recharge your spirit, purify your mind, touch your soul and give you eternal joy and happiness today, tomorrow and forever. You have been a source of power and a mentor to many people including myself having earned a lot of administrative skills from you.

The Kaizer Chiefs, as a brand, was moulded by you from inception and is now an institution that addresses bread and butter issues of many South Africans and some living abroad. Now that you have relinquished the position of Managing Director, you need to relax and take it easy for we still need your expertise and guidance not only in football but in our daily lives.

May God shower you with all blessings on your birthday.
