Evergreen shot stopper Arthur Bartman was the man of the night when Kaizer Chiefs hosted a glamorous evening at the lavish Vodaworld, as he won the prestigious Player of the Year Award, which is accompanied by a whopping R80 000 and a sporty Nissan Qashqai.

Another top award the veteran goalkeeper walked away with was the Players’ Player of the Year Award, which meant that Bartman not only won the respect of the Amakhosi Faithful but of his teammates, as this award is voted for by his peers. He also walked away with three Player of the Month Awards for February, March and April.

Last years’ winner of the Player of the Year, Siphiwe Tshabalala took home the Amakhosi Readers’ Choice Player of the Year Award and the Goal of the Year Award, for his cracking free kick goal against Mamelodi Sundowns in Pretoria.

Kaizer Chiefs’ young striking sensation, Knowledge Musona, took home two of the four main awards by scooping the Discovery of the Year and Top Goal Scorer awards, while another hot young player, Mandla Masango, walked away with the Most Improved Player Award.

The night also paid tribute to the club’s rich history of winning and the amazing story of the vision of a 25-year-old, young Kaizer Motaung, who has dedicated his entire life to ensure that his vision is kept alive.

The Phefeni Glamour Boys have been dominating the South African soccer industry for 40 years, winning more trophies than any other South African team that has ever existed, including current teams.

The story of the dynasty

1970 - 1980

By the year 1980, Kaizer Chiefs were 10 years old and had already bagged 19 cups, making their intentions known and commanding the respect they enjoy until this day in the South African football scene.

In the fall of 1981, the Phefeni Glamour Boys continued where they left off, defending the Castle League, BP Top eight and Champion of Champions, finishing the season with four cups as they went on to win the Mainstay Cup.

1980 - 1990

In the decade ending in 1990, Chiefs swept up 30 cups in a period of 10 years, hence being named the cup specialists, a title they have lived up to until this day. Kaizer Chiefs were unstoppable in this decade, averaging three trophies a season.

1990 - 2000

As the new millenium hit the universe, the team’s trophy cabinet was already overflowing, hitting figures of 53 cups in total over a period of 30 years and showing no signs of slowing down, as 14 cups were collected in that decade alone.

2000 - 2010

Between the years 2000 and 2010, the team collected 19 trophies, taking the total number of cups won by the Phefeni Club to 72, which is worth celebrating, especially in such a special year as 2010, where South Africa is hosting the first ever Fifa World Cup to be staged in Africa.

Among the highlights of the new millennium is that in 2002 Kaizer Chiefs were named the African Club of the Year at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards and went on to beat the most successful team in the world, Manchester United, and the richest team in the world, Manchester City, in the same decade, during the Vodacom Challenge pre-season tournament.
