Bad weather stops game
Bad weather stops game

Torrential rain, lightening and a power failure all contributed to the Premier League game between Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu being abandoned in the first half at a water-logged Loftus Stadium in Pretoria on Wednesday night without a goal having been scored.

Officials lingered on for more than an hour before coming to the

decision to postpone the game, which seemed inevitable as a series

of puddles on the pitch threatened to become mini-lakes.

Disturbing, however, was the second floodlight failure in

little more than a week at a ground which is scheduled to host

World Cup games next year.

Match commissioner Stan Swart consulted on the phone with PSL

chief operations officer Ronnie Schloss before coming to a decision

that had disgruntled fans trooping out of the stadium like mourners

at a funeral.

And Swart announced that the date on which the game will be

resurrected and replayed had still to be decided by the PSL.
