After creating a thunder storm on the field of play against Bloemfontein Celtic in Port Elizabeth this past Saturday, when they defeated the Free Staters by two goals to nil. Chiefs were caught up in a storm of their own when their flight from Port Elizabeth could not land in Johannesburg on Sunday afternoon as the city of gold was being drenched by a storm at the time.

The flight was than re routed to Durban and Chiefs eventually got back to Johannesburg at 20h00, four hours later than expected. “For a while it was a bit scary up there while the storm was in full flow, the plane was being thrown around but thankfully we veered out and went to wait in Durban,” was defender Derrick Spencer’s description of events.

Coach Ernst Middendorp was not happy with Mother Nature’s intervention in proceedings, which caused Chiefs to have a slightly altered itinerary on Monday.

“I am grateful we got out of the storm okay, the only problem was that all the delays meant that we had to cancel our Monday afternoon training session, I felt that the players needed the time off because we had been travelling since about 12h30 pm on Sunday and by the time the guys eventually got home it was past ten pm in the evening,” added the coach.

With seven of Chiefs remaining eleven games of the season at home and two of them within driving distance of Johannesburg, the coach will be happy to known that the Amakhosi have only two plane trips left for the season. Hopefully these will take off and land with out any delays or being re routed so that Chiefs can stay the path of retaining their PSL crown.
