The Amakhosi were hard at work on Wednesday afternoon and it was not on the training ground where they were labouring hard, instead it was on a building site where they in conjunction with the Habitat for Humanity Project and employees of Rand Water and Transnet helped lay the foundations of a housing project. The project will eventually be home to ten foster families who will be the caregivers of a number of orphaned children.

It was at the Weilers Farm on the Vaal region of Gauteng where The Amakhosi joined the various crews and got stuck in and wasted no time in mixing cement, as well as climbing a top scaffolding to lay bricks. Chiefs were well received on site and the players in all enjoyed their time out helping to help build not just a house as well as a home and a new life for a number of children.

Angie Phaliso Rand Water Foundation Manager was happy with the contributions made by The Amakhosi on the project and said to kaizerchiefs.com. “We do not want the teams to come here for a public relations exercise, we want them to help with the building of the houses. It was good to see Chiefs wasting no time and getting straight into their job, what the Chiefs team build today were not houses but a lasting legacy and a they built a difference in some ones life”.

Phaliso had further praise for The Amakhosi saying “most of the children who are going to move into these homes with their foster families at admire these players. They are heroes to these kids and it will really be something special for them to know that the players they admire were part of the crew that built them a new life”.

Social difference

Amakhosi director of Communications Thebe Mohatle was with the Chiefs first team on their trip to the Habitat for Humanity site, and he spoke to kaizerchiefs.com about the visit and said. “Undertaking such an exercise for us is so that we become socially aware of and identify with socio economic challenges facing our communities. We aim through these projects to get the boys to reconnect with the community, and also to give the team an opportunity to focus on helping the people around them”.
