South African Airways and the Premier Soccer League arranged for The Amakhosi and their opponents on Sunday Moroka Swallows, to cruise through the coastal city in two open top busses.

The hugely popular seaside town which has seen its population swell this weekend, due to a combination of the SAA Supa8 match and the heritage day long weekend.

Was a buzz as the motorcade consisting of the two buses crawled through the downtown area, which was jam packed with shoppers, fans and office workers leaving work early to start their long weekends.

The sponsors were looking towards making the public aware of Sunday’s game, they got more than they bargained for as traffic came to a stand still with hordes of bystanders cheering The Amakhosi on.

Chiefs players responded by returning the many good luck messages they received along the way and also distributed autograph cards to supporters who had lined the way to greet them.

It was clearly evident that the players enjoyed the hour long parade as they seemed to be having fun interacting with supporters, veteran midfielder Thabo Mooki said of the parade. “The best way to get fired up for a game is by getting down on the street and hearing what the fans have to say, I am really motivated by all the encouraging words we received Friday afternoon”.

One of the fans favourite through out the parade on Friday was midfielder Scara Ngobese who savoured every moment of the parade, he particularly enjoyed blowing kisses to his many female admirers.

“Knowing that there are so many people out there who love this team makes us all feel really important, so many people came out to see us today that I feel like the State President and having to wave so much has made my hands sore but I must say I enjoyed the experience”.

One can clearly say that after the reception the team received from their many fans in the City boarded by the Indian Ocean, that Durban will again come to a standstill on Sunday Afternoon when Chiefs take on old rivals Moroka Swallows on Sunday.

If Chiefs are looking for the numerical advantage in stands to hand them the advantage on the score board. Then based on the evidence of Friday’s parade it seems that the number of voices in the stands cheering them on could play a huge role in Chiefs parading in the Supa8 Final next month.
