Kaizer Chiefs brought back into the clubs’ ranks one of its most famous sons on Wednesday when former club goalkeeper Banks Sethlodi was roped into the Kaizer Chiefs technical team.

Sethlodi, whose links to the club go back to Kaizer Chiefs formation in January 1970, was the team’s first choice goalkeeper for a decade and even had a stint of coaching the Chiefs first team along with Elkim Khumalo in 1981.

Josephs ‘Banks’ Sethlodi was born in Randfontein on 12th December 1947. Banks' best friend in football was the late Ace Ntsolengoe.

Sethlodi’s new role at Chiefs will see him working not just with the first team, where he will work as the assistant goalkeeper coach to Rainer Dinkelacker, the much respected South African football legend will work with the various Chiefs junior teams and his duties will also see him working as a scout for the Amakhosi.

Upon making the information of Sethlodi’s appointment public, Kaizer Chiefs team manager Bobby Motaung said “Mr. Banks Sethlodi's appointment to the Kaizer Chiefs family is part of our ongoing restructuring for next season. He will have a number of roles working with players from the first team and the juniors as well as going around the country scouting for new talent.

"Mr. Banks Sethlodi is a respected person and he served this club well as a player and we are confident of his abilities to fulfil the roles given to him. Banks will fit into a grand scheme of things which, like I said earlier, is part of our restructuring process and we will make this public over the next couple of weeks”.

Banks who has over the years spent time attending a number of goalkeeper training courses, as well as having coached at various high schools, universities and clubs in England, is looking forward to his new post as well as facing up to the challenges that come with working for the most supported team in the country.

“I am delighted to have been able to renew my acquaintanceship with Kaizer Chiefs, having been here as a player and a coach means that I am aware of what is expected of me from the chairman, players and the rest of the technical team”.

On the question of looking to scour the land to find talent for the next generation of Kaizer Chiefs players, Sethlodi added “one of the duties I will need to fulfil is that of being a talent spotter, which will mean that I will have to travel to all parts of the country attending many youth tournaments. I am definitely looking forward to that and being part of the process of ensuring that the Kaizer Chiefs production line flows smoothly is an exciting prospect.”
