With the country close to lock down as most businesses shut down for the holiday period Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Gerald Sibeko was overjoyed when given the news on Wednesday after training that his summer holidays will be cut short.

Sibeko was informed on Wednesday after the morning training session by team manager Bobby Motaung that he had been selected by Khabo Zondo and Kosta Papic to be part of a PSL Selection team. The PSL selection team, which will be jointly coached by Zondo - coach of Golden Arrows and Orlando Pirates coach Papic - will take on Bafana Bafana in two friendly matches as Bafana Bafana prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Sibeko reacted with great enthusiasm and excitement to the news of his inclusion in the PSL team. "This call up is a testimony to the hard work I have put in over the last few years, I need to use this as a spring board into eventually being a regular feature in the fulltime Bafana Bafana squad," he said.

Gerald will be in good company in the PSL team as hard-as-nuts Amakhosi defender Siphiwe Mkhonza and midfielder Gert Schalkwyk have also been included in the team.

Chiefs have a fourth staff member also part of the team and were surprised to see that club Doctor Phil Maepa will be running the touchline as the medical man for the PSL Selection team.

Dr Maepa who has been with the Amakhosi for 18 years recently made headlines when he was red carded off the Chiefs bench during a league game Ajax Cape Town at Newlands Stadium.

The matches between the PSL team and Bafana Bafana coached by former Chiefs coach Ted Dumitru are scheduled to take place on the 30th of December and the 6th of January. As yet no kick off time or venue have been confirmed for the matches.
