Amakhosi resume their Betway Premiership campaign on Saturday with a trip to Gqeberha, where Chippa United lie in wait for a showdown at the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium. Brimming with confidence following their progression to the Nedbank Cup final at the expense of Mamelodi Sundowns, the Glamour Boys are aiming for a third win over the Chilli Boys this season.
“Chippa United are a very competitive side; very structured, very disciplined. We have faced them before in the league and come out victorious and also managed to get one over them in the (Nedbank) Cup,” defender, Given Msimango tells www.kaizerchiefs.com, “However, that doesn’t mean that we demand anything less than full concentration from ourselves. We have studied them and we’re ready to match their energy and intensity on the day.”
With injuries to key defenders, Rushwin Dortley and Inacio Miguel, recently, Msimango has stepped up in their absence to play a leading role in marshalling the Chiefs rear guard.
“Personally, I’m in a good space. I have been putting in the hard work on and off the pitch and I feel confident in my contribution to the team. It’s always about improving, staying consistent,” says the Brakpan-born centreback, who turns 28 early next month, “I believe my focus has started showing in my performances and I’m just looking forward to maintaining good form and helping the team.”
Msimango recognises the tremendous effect the support of the legions of Amakhosi fans has on the players, and the team as a whole, and is quick to express his gratitude.
“To our amazing supporters, we see you, we hear you, we appreciate you. When the Khosi nation stands behind us, it lifts us, and I can’t stress enough how much of a difference your presence makes. It’s not just about football, it’s about pride. It’s about unity and hope, So, thank you to all the Amakhosi supporters for standing behind us and being there all the time… the difficult times and the good times,” he says, adding, “I hope to see many of you at the stadium on Saturday. Let’s fill the stands and create an unforgettable atmosphere. Your voices are our fuel, guys. Without you we are nothing.”
The thoughtful man that he is, Msimango closes out with a message of goodwill and care regarding the approaching holiday break.
“With the Easter holidays around the corner, please travel safely” he implores, “Arrive alive, guys. Take care on the roads. Look out for one another. We want to see you back home safely, and not just for football but for your families and your loved ones too. Thank you to the Amakhosi Family and God bless.”
