“The most important thing is how we bounce back,” reflects goalkeeper Bontle Molefe on Kaizer Chiefs’ Under-17s loss to Spartak Moscow in their third Future Champions Gauteng International Tournament match on Wednesday afternoon.

“Football is football and no matter how good you are, anything can happen. We played our hearts out but we didn’t score.”

The Russians won 2-0.

The Phefeni Boys were well supported by the Amakhosi faithful, who turned up in big numbers for the encounter played at the Nike Centre in Pimville, Soweto.

“It was great to see all the support we received from the fans,” remarks Molefe, who had another outstanding performance in goal.

The loss meant that the Under-17s side ended second in their group and will now compete for positions in the play-offs.

Molefe was recently promoted to Chiefs’ first team and is happy with the experience. “Training with the first team, because of the high tempo, makes everything seem simple when playing with the Under-17s.”

The 16-year-old goalkeeper has been a marvel to watch, pulling miraculous saves in all the three matches played so far.

The next opponent for Amakhosi will be Highlands Park. The game will take place at the Nike Centre on Friday, 29 March. Kick-off is at 11:30.

“We know Highlands very well because we played them for third position in the Gauteng Future Champions Cup,” Molefe previews Friday’s encounter.

“We have to keep our heads up and carry on playing the way we do. I believe we will put up a fight and, if we indeed do so, we will win the game.”
